Back in October 2011, I worked with some of my friends on the MA Art Gallery and Museum Studies course at Leeds University to curate an exhibition of 18th century creamware and pearlware in the Education Room of the Stanley and Audrey Burton Gallery. The exhibition was called Fancy A Brew? 18th Century Drinking Cultures. East Street Arts gave our exhibition some free advertising, which you can read here.
My job was to research, write up and edit information for the text panel and information leaflet, but I also helped to install the objects and document the installation process through photography. Installation Day involved a lot of repeatedly measuring the spaces between objects, plumping the “book pillows” and obsessively polishing the glass cabinet doors. It was a little tedious at times, but much fun nonetheless. Maybe I will get to curate another exhibition one day. I live in hope.
